Checking out the Tzenkethi
Posted on Mon Jan 16th, 2023 @ 12:00am by Lieutenant Tequila Dreik & Lieutenant Sabine St. James & Lieutenant JG Sel PsyD
Mission:
00 -Life on the Line
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD01-0215Hours
The Tzenkethi group followed Lieutenant St.James and her deputies through the winding and decaying corridors of K-17 until the finally arrived at the prescribed destination. Though none of them had identified any injuries it seemed prudent to be checked anyways, just to be safe.
It was only a few minutes earlier that Tiki had received notification that the Tzenkethi were coming directly to sickbay to be assessed for injuries first. Almost immediately she slipped into work mode. Half of sickbay had been cleared, including a secondary triage area where they could be isolated from the rest of the sickbay occupants.
As the doors to sickbay opened, Tiki looked across from where she stood, mid discussion with one of her nurses and watched as Sabine entered, followed immediately by the Tzenkethi visitors. "This way Lieutenant, I've arranged private space for our guests through here," she stated, giving the nurse one last nod before she started through sickbay to the secondary triage area.
"Thank you, Doctor." Sabine said, and looked to the Tzenkethi entourage, "This is Doctor Dreik, our Chief Medical Officer. She will be seeing to your medical needs. I do ask that you have a guide with you at all times if you should need to leave the sickbay - not only the usual security reasons, but there are potential hazards. I'll remain however to act in that capacity."
“We truly appreciate the gesture.” Said one Tzenkethi woman named Alizome. “We have no reason to roam. The safety of your medical facilities will suffice until we're given instructions." She looked around with face that conveyed dissatisfaction at her surroundings."I am Alizome Vik Gar-A, I will speak for my people."
It was only once the Tzenkethi were settled and nurses were running basic triage that Tiki stepped out to speak to Sabine. "Anything I should be aware of? Looking for?" she asked quietly. "Any specific concerns?"
The Chief of Security shook her head, "Apart from injuries, no. Based on the Captain's example, we're just to treat them as guests." She said quietly, "But I recommend caution, Doctor. I cannot say with any certainty what will or will not be seen as offensive to them. We've had poor relations with them since before the Dominion War."
Tiki nodded. The physiology of the Tzenkethi wasn't something she was immediately familiar with, in fact, she doubted many in the Federation at all were. Still, no time like the present to learn. "Thank you Lieutenant," she said quietly as she turned on her heel and strode toward Alizome, a warm smile fixed on her features. "Right, sorry about that," she said cheerfully. "I apologise for the state of sickbay, unfortunately we haven't expected visitors here for the last... oh, I don't know... hundred years?" she shook her head as she grabbed a tricorder and started scanning the female Tzenkethi. "I think passing ships think we're a bit more wicked witch's house than candy cottage."
Alizome looked taken aback. “I had no idea your species was so long lived.” She looked Tiki up and down. “I must say you look good for being over a century old.”
Tiki laughed. "Oh, no, I'm a newcomer. While some humans can live to around the century, I'm pretty sure my mixed heritage blood changes that some." She tucked her hair behind her ear, revealing a pointed ear adorned by a Bajoran D'ja Pagh. "What I said, the words, it was a facetious statement. I meant that the station had been here for a long time. It's mostly abandoned, we don't get a lot of visitors or anything," she explained.
"You were being flippant." Alizome said with something resembling an amused smile. She took a deep breath. "Well doctor, I shall go first. I must set the example for our people."
Tiki smiled warmly. "Alizome, wasn't it?" Tiki asked as she picked up a tricorder and approached the Tzenkethi. "What I'm going to do first is just a body scan, it gives me some basic information and I can go from there. Is there anything you want to know before I start or anything you want me to know?"
"We would ask that you take only scans. You should not require samples for your analysis correct?" Alizome spoke with a very calm and even tone.
Tiki nodded slightly. "Scans will give me all the information I need, at least for the moment. If anything comes up from that, well, I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it."
The rest of the examinations passed in an assortment of idle chatter as Tiki gathered the information she needed. Once she was done she handed care of the Tzenkethi over to her staff and retreated to her office to finish out the reports for the Captain, but the same thought lingered in her mind. Something just didn't feel right.
